Spring is almost here! Flowers are in bloom and Easter is just around the corner! We would like to remind our clients that there are some things to keep in mind for their pets for this time of year.
Many celebrations include Easter Lilies as gifts and decorations. These are toxic/possibly fatal to cats. Please check here for more information.
Common table foods that are served at this time can cause severe gastric upset. Please do not feed any table foods, especially those that contain high fat content, grapes, or raisins.
Watch for foods/gums/breads/sweets, that contain Xylitol or Birch sugar as the sweetener. If these are ingested, you must have your pet seen right away. This sweetener causes a severe drop in glucose in dogs, that can lead to coma, seizures, and death.
Many non-pet owning gardeners will be putting out slug baits to protect their flowers. Please be aware of this and keep dogs on leash while walking and cats indoors. If you suspect that your pet has ingested any slug bait, please have them seen right away.
If your pet has eaten a plant/bulb/leaf, identify the plant, if you can, bring in the plant pieces and if your pet vomits, bring that as well. This will help us identify the plant and help figure out if the plant is poisonous/toxic or not.
